Will switching from HDMI to RCA affect my PlayStation 3’s performance?

Purchasing a PS3 or an Xbox has become super trendy in today’s hi-tech world. Gaming consoles are replacing the traditional computer at an astonishing fast rate. The enhanced picture and sound has made these gaming accessories must-have devices.

Switching from HDMI to RCA cables

If you switch from High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) to Radio Corporation of America cables (RCA) you will notice a drastic change in the picture and sound quality on your PS3. This is because the RCA cables use basic inputs. These inputs do not thus enhance the quality of the video being transmitted. The cables simply transmit the data from one source to another.

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface)

HDMI cables act as a source for transmitting data to a display device. While it may seem that HDMI cables are similar to RCA connectors, the technological advances used by HDMI cables make them superior to other data transmitting cables. These connectors support video up to 1080 pixels, the highest possible resolution today. Modern games are made to make the most of high end graphics cards and hence using HDMI cables in this situation is an ideal choice.

RCA (Radio Corporation of America) connectors

As mentioned earlier, RCA connectors do not use the latest technological inputs and hence are thought to be inferior to HDMI cables. Switching from HDMI to RCA will allow you to play games or watch movies on your PS3 but it is a backwards step. This is because HD games are not entirely compatible with SD resolution connectors.

If it is quality that you are looking for, you will be better off with an HDMI cable.
