A High Definition Multimedia Interface cable (HDMI) transmits high definition audio and video signals from audio and video devices onto a TV screen. DVD players, Set-top boxes and high definition video games are some examples of devices that connect to a TV using a HDMI cable. The cable is similar to a USB cable, the only difference is that HDMI cables have 19 single wires wrapped into one cable.
A HDMI cable is better than other cables
Due to its ability to provide perfect picture and sound, a HDMI cable is a better bet than a regular analogue cable. Individuals prefer HDMI cables over other conventional ones because of the high quality digital signals HDMI cables provide. While analogue cables convert digital signals into poor quality analogue signals, HDMI cables retain the digital signal and display it clearly on the TV screen. This results in sharp picture quality and thus there is no loss of signal transmission.
The types of HDMI cables available
As time has gone by, there have been some advances in HDMI cable technology. Today there are different versions of HDMI available.
These versions are HDMI 1.0, HDMI 1.1, HDMI 1.2, HDMI 1.2a, HDMI 1.3 and HDMI 1.4. All these versions of cables are backward compatible and hence one does not have to bother about compatibility with devices. Audio or video equipment will work on any of the above mentioned HDMI cables. Ideally, it would be advisable to go in for a newer version such as HDMI 1.3 or HDMI 1.4.
HDMI cables are available in different price ranges. You just have to choose one that is the right length and has the specifications you require.
