Because of the way HDMI has been tested to date, it’s very confusing for customers. HDMI cables are tested to certain specifications, which include 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and so on. These numbers mean very little to customers so HDMI is increasingly being categorised by what category is applicable for, for example, automotive HDMI, standard, HDMI, and High Speed HDMI. We cover more the specific qualities of each of the DMI categories in the next article.
However, most people require HDMI for domestic entertainment use, and in such instances, standard HDMI is more than ample. Standard HDMI transmits 1080i or 720p video, which are most frequently used by cable, satellite, HD, and premium DVD players.
In some cases, in the home, for entertainment purposes, High Speed HDMI is more beneficial. If you are looking to utilise 3D, for example, we would recommend you use High Speed HDMi cables. However, there is also substance in the argument for future proofing your HDMi needs by buying High Speed cables.
