Features and uses of HDMI cables

HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) has now become a standard for HDTV connections. Due to the many advantages that HDMI cables offer, they have now replaced traditional analogue cables.

HDMI cables are used for connecting digital input sources to televisions, computer monitors and digital receivers. Using an HDMI cable, you can also connect your Xbox, Wii, PlayStation and Blu-ray player to your HDTV for the best picture quality possible.

Two different types of HDMI cables are now available – category one and category two.

Category one HDMI cables can transmit audio and video signals of 720p or 1080p, whilst category two HDMI cables are capable of transmitting 720p, 1600p and 1080i audio and video signals. They are also known as high-speed HDMI cables.

Select an HDMI cable of a proper length

While looking to buy an HDMI cable, there are certain things you need to consider. If the length of HDMI cable is too long and the signal reception is weak, the images on screen will start to blink. Using equalizers, HDMI extenders or repeaters, this problem can be easily resolved.

So, if you want to enjoy high quality viewing from your new flat panel LCD or plasma TV, consider using HDMI cables to connect it to other audio-visual devices.
